Lord…As much as I will love this child, You already love this child more…

Plant this child like trees by streams of water, rooted and grounded in love, yielding fruit in season with leaves that do not wither.

Make your Word richly dwell within, teaching and admonishing this child, growing thankfulness in the heart of your child.

Stir up love for others, patience and kindness, Keep this child humble, ever seeking you and rejoicing in your truth.

May this child ask in faith, believing that you are the giver of all that is good.

Call this child to you, open this child’s eyes, so they might place their eternal hope in you…Amen.

PROVERBS 22:6 – NIV

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are oldthey will not turn from it.

I would give it all up, my last bite, my last sip, my last dollar, my life.

I would give everything to ensure your happiness. But feeding a sense of entitlement will move you far from the one you need most. Beyond having more, you need to want what you already have. You need to understand what you need and hold loose to desire.

Sometimes the answer will be no. Sometimes the blessing is the refusal. You will ask in ignorance for harmful things. I will protect you from your desires and teach you your place as the child. I am the parent. Decisions are made that you cannot understand.

Much like decisions God makes that we don’t understand. Sometimes He says no. Sometimes His blessing is the refusal. He protects us from our selfish desires because more than our happiness, He wants us to learn our place as the created.

He is the Creator whose thoughts are not our thoughts, whose ways are not our ways.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

MATTHEW 6:26-27 NIV
