Love that flows down from parent to child differs from the love that flows up from child to parent. It’s okay. It’s what enables you to grow up, leave home, and begin your own family.
But the day you meet your firstborn, you will better understand parental love — unconditional, dominating, never-ending love. And the same sacrificial stream will pour out from you to your child.
This love will quietly devour every minute of every day. It fuels you through the endless tasks of parenthood. It empowers you to smile through tears, guilt, and exhaustion.
This consuming love for your child is fueled by God’s consuming love for you. The unconditional, dominating, never-ending love flowing down from our Father empowers you to love others through tears, guilt, and exhaustion. As the Holy Spirit sustains you, lending you His perfect strength, this season becomes less about parenting perfectly, and more about how you respond to the challenges of parenting. This season ceases to be solely about shaping them, and includes shaping you.
God molds you through your children, teaching you how to be a better parent, but also how to be a pleasing child, totally dependent on Him.
And you grow in your faith just a little bit more.
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
PHILIPPIANS 4:13 NLT
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
ROMANS 8:38-39 NIV
