Page 65 – “Toy Joy” Unexpected Love: Digital Interactive Devotional and Bible Study

One tug undoes the tidy ribbon and lights your eyes. A furry face in rainbow hues peeks through the crumpled shroud. Waiting. Chubby toddler fingers reverently explore the textiles, sweetening the moment. Your delighted grin makes me smile. Joy swells, tender and thick. “What will you name him?” Thoughtful consideration puckers young wispy brows. I smile. It is good. 

Fur and feathers once paused before Adam, awaiting a name. Did Adam explore the texture and contours of each animal? Did his brows pucker in deliberation as he scrutinized movement, sound, and personality? Did joy swell in the Creator’s heart as wildlife hushed to receive a name? 

We cannot know. But each stripe, spot, mane, and tail provides a rare glimpse of God and His endless ability to create beauty from nothing. 

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
