Grins and cuddles will inevitably yield to tears and tantrums. An inherited sinful nature reveals undeniable truth.
All have sinned — even you, my precious, perfect child.
But even at your most unlovable — you are always loved. Always.
Love does not hinge on what you do, it hinges on whose you are. God’s. We love because God first loved us. He loved us when our smiles and tenderness yielded to tantrums and schemes.
When our inherited tendency toward sin and selfishness surfaced, it revealed our need for God’s love. He loves. Always.
His love does not hinge on what we do, it hinges on who He is and what He has done. He does not love because we are lovable. He loves because that is who He is.
Perfect love. Unearned, undeserved, unending love.
It’s how we love you. It’s how He loves us. It is a gift from Father to child.
We love because he first loved us.
